The
Bernese
A bernese mountain dog is a wonderful and good-natured dog. The BMD easy adapt
in new situations and environments and takes most things calm. A bernese should
be stable, not frightened and devoted with level temperament. I think that a
bernese is a bit like Winnie the Poh, nice and kind-hearted with a wonderful,
cuddly personality. Doesn't always think so fast, but have a heart of gold!
It takes a bit more time for a BMD to understand obedience element in the
beginning of the learning period then for a toller, but in return the BMD is
more reliable to always accomplish the things that they have learned, instead of
finding out new ways to do the things like a toller can do.
In most cases a bernese neither have instinct to struggle or
hunting, and that can be good to think of from the beginning to build up an
interest for objects early with the puppy to make the training easier. The
BMD should stay on the yard by itself and not run away on own adventures, so for
that reason it is good that the hunting instinct almost is non- existent. A
bernese should be a multifaceted dog, possible to use to many things, if you
want a dog to work with and in the same time wants a calm and cosy family dog,
the bernese can be a good choice. Their size can of some persons experience as a
disadvantage, but with the good-natured, calm and cosy temperament a bernese
have, I don´t think it is a problem at all. Possibly when they want to sit on
the lap...
Like the toller and the cavalier, the bernese is a real life- enjoying- dog that
really knows how to enjoy life!
